Open the app, keep the phone level, and walk. The model runs continuously — you'll hear a chime (if you want one) when confidence spikes.

Found something? Tap the pin. GPS gets locked in silently, grouped with nearby finds, and stored locally. Tap the shutter for a full-res photo.

Morels come back. Your Spots list is waiting. Check soil temp, check the rain, head back to last year's producers — and quietly destroy.

This app cannot identify mushrooms.

It helps. It doesn't decide. A trained model can narrow the search — it cannot replace your own eyes, a spore print, or a human expert. False morels and other lookalikes can kill.

Before you eat anything you found with MorelHunter:

  • Confirm the identification with a trained mycologist or an expert forager in person.
  • Verify the honeycomb cap is fully fused to the stem and the interior is completely hollow — cap tip to stem base.
  • Cross-reference against false morels (Gyromitra) and other lookalikes specific to your region.
  • Never consume wild mushrooms based on any app's output alone, including this one.
  • When in doubt, throw it out. A bad ID can cause severe illness or death.

Does the app guarantee a mushroom is safe to eat?
No. Absolutely not. The detection model helps you look faster — it never certifies edibility. Always verify identification with an expert before consumption.
Does MorelHunter track my location or share my spots?
No. GPS coordinates for saved spots are stored only on your device. There is no account system and no cloud sync. Your patches stay yours.
Does detection work offline?
Yes. The model runs entirely on-device. Once installed, you don't need cellular or Wi-Fi for detection — good news, because most morel woods don't have signal.
What region is the model trained on?
Training data covers common morel species across North America, with an emphasis on Midwestern black and yellow morels. If you opt in, anonymous detection images help expand coverage to your region over time.
When is the Android version coming?
The Android build is in development. Leave your email (coming soon) if you want a heads-up when it ships.
Can the app find other mushrooms?
MorelHunter is trained specifically for morels. It is not a general mushroom ID app and should not be used for other species.
